5. Fort Desoto Park

Top 10 things to do in St Petersburg florida

Located about 30 miles south of St. Petersburg, Fort Desoto is a great place to spend an afternoon or two.  Beautiful beaches, picnic tables, camping, and lots of historic sites to check out.  If you love to fish, there are two piers located at Fort Desoto that offer free fishing.

Want to take the dogs to the beach?  Fort Desoto has your back. They have several dog friendly beaches and a huge dog park.

4. U Pick Farms- O’Brien Family Farms

We love to pick our own vegetables.  There is nothing better than fresh picked veggies!  The St. Petersburg area offers lots of great U-Pick Farms.  Our favorite was located in Bradenton- about 30 miles south just over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, called O’Brien Family Farms.

We were able to pick fresh strawberries, pepper, broccoli and even cabbage!

3. Florida State Fairgrounds

We attended the Florida State Fair and the Florida RV Super Show while we were in St. Petersburg.  Both events were held at the Florida State Fairgrounds.  The Florida State Fairgrounds offer events and concerts year round.  Located right off the interstate in Tampa, the fairgrounds are easy to get to and parking is simple and plentiful.

2. Sunshine Skyway bridge

This beautiful bridge spans Tampa Bay, connecting St. Petersburg with Manatee County.  The bridge itself is a little over four miles long.  Built in 1987 it replaced an older bridge that was partly destroyed in a collision in 1980.

The bridge itself is amazing to see and fun to drive over (if the winds are not too bad).  From the Fort Desoto side, you can sit on the beach and enjoy watching the local kite surfers in action.

1. Johns Pass

This fun little village is Pinellas County’s #1 tourist attraction.  Located on the waterfront at Johns Pass in St. Pete Beach, it includes over 100 unique retail shops, restaurants, local fishing fleets, boat rentals, jet skiing, dolphin watching and much more!

And there is ice cream!  Just be careful.  The seagulls love ice cream too.  Ask me how I know.

Metered parking is available and the shopping is fabulous.  This is a great place to pick up a few souvenirs before heading home.

So that is our top 10 for St. Petersburg, FL!  Florida was a great adventure for us.  We will be back one day.  In the meantime, we are hitting the road for next adventure!  Stay tuned!
